Up to 15% of patients on prescription medications for fibromyalgia complain of some side effects. This percentage is even higher for those patients on more than one type of medication. The most common ones are:
· Nausea (which may be reduced by decreasing the dosage). · Drowsiness. · Constipation. · Rashes. · Headaches. · Dependency.
The danger with long term use of opioids or other types of prescription analgesics is that nearly all patients become physically dependent. This means that you will suffer severe pain and anxiety if the drug is abruptly withdrawn. In rarer cases, a patient may become addicted to the medication and crave it for the psychological lift it might provide. It is important that you monitor your symptoms carefully when on any type of medication and report any side-effects to your physician immediately.
